SPECIAL THANKS
– St. John’s Day 2008
SPECIAL THANKS
St. John’s Day is about more than
parades, food, and entertainment; it is about people and without
them, this day would not be possible. Our Home, staff, Board of
Directors, alumni and residents would like to recognize the
following groups and individuals. It is only through their support,
funds, hard work, time, dedication and care that we can continue
this decade’s old tradition, honoring Masonry and our Masonic Home.
Please note these groups and individuals and their contribution to
the day. And a special thanks to all who participated in St. John's
Day 2008.

4th Year
of Tom Joseph Ride Planned for St. John’s
Bill Thornton will once again
ride into town on his bicycle carrying with him the support of hundreds of
Masons, corporations, co-workers and friends and family. For a fourth
year, Mr. Thornton will ride his bicycle from Winston-Salem to Oxford, a 135
mile journey, raising money for the Home along the way. It is a ride that
has generated over $25,000 in its short existence and has seen its purpose grow
as an inspiration to others wishing to raise funds for the Home. “We had a
Mason walk from Morehead City last year to raise money for the Home. I
believe he was inspired by Bill and his ride,” stated Chris Richardson, Director
of Financial Development at MHCO. “Bill involves other Lodges,
individuals, co-workers and even his employer, getting matching funds from R.J.
Reynolds, through their employee giving program,” stated Richardson. This
year’s ride is the fourth edition of the Tom Joseph Memorial Ride, honoring Mr.
Tom Joseph, a member of Forsyth Masonic Lodge No. 707 and one of Bill’s biggest
and best supporters when he started the ride. Bill has ridden in charity
rides before in South Carolina, Florida, and North Carolina and used that
experience to create this special fundraiser for the Home. “I hope this
year others will join me, to help the Home and contribute even more donations.”
Bill Thornton will arrive from Winston-Salem on St. John’s Day prior to the
parade to present this year’s gift to the Home. For more information or to
donate to this year’s ride, contact MHCO at 1-888-505-4357 or via email at the
2008 St. John’s Day website -

ABOUT OUR ENTERTAINMENT
MR.
CRAIG WOOLARD & THE CRAIG WOOLARD BAND
After twenty-seven
years singing with The Embers as one of North Carolina’s Official
“Ambassadors of Beach Music”, he is now on his own!
Craig has won many
awards with The Embers, and is proud of his tenure with the group as lead
singer. A veteran of the music industry since he was 14 years old, Craig has
performed for Presidents, governors, and ambassadors (Including Elizabeth
Dole’s and former President Clinton's inaugurations); appeared on stage with
famous groups as The Four Tops, The Temptations, the Beach Boys, Percy
Sledge, Archie Bell, and Alabama. He has played such events as the 100th
Celebration of The Wright Brothers at Kitty Hawk. His music has been heard
from the Caribbean, to New York, to California, Chicago, Atlantic City and
as far away as Hawaii and Europe. For the past 2 years, he has co-hosted the
acclaimed the Carolina Beach Music Awards (affectionately known as the “CAMMYS”)
held each November at the Alabama Theatre in Myrtle Beach. And once again,
Craig was the GRAND MARSHALL for the ever so popular SOS parade held each
spring at Myrtle Beach, SC.
With
the classic style of Ray Charles, the dynamics of Marvin Gaye and Rod Stewart,
the Soul of James Brown, the vocal prowess of Steve Perry of Journey, combined
with the passion of Sam Cook and Michael McDonald, you have “The Soul Man of
Beach Music”, Craig Woolard.
As the ambassador of
Beach Music, Woolard has enjoyed a stellar career as the front man of one of
Carolina’s premiere bands, the Embers. After 27 years with his former group.
Woolard has taken on a new persona in what is claimed to be the South’s
number one Beach Music, R&B, Top 40, Motown, 70’s & 80’s, and Rock & Roll
Party Band….Craig Woolard is The Real Thing!
As for Woolard’s new band, The Craig Woolard Band, they are the “hottest
band this side of the Mississippi! Their first year out in 2005, they were
honored as ‘GROUP OF THE YEAR” , while Craig walked away with Entertainer of
the Year, Male Vocalist, Best Smoothie Song, and Song of the Year. Their
arrangements are exciting and ever so danceable. And of course, one may
think “The Shag” and “Beach Music’ were invented just for them. (The band
does a variety of music so all ages and styles can be covered – “What you
WANT is what you GET with The Craig Woolard Band”).

THE
PIZAZZ BAND
The Pizazz Band
is able to entertain a wide range of ages and musical preferences by gearing
their extensive play lists to their audiences-heavy on the beach and funk
for the private parties, top 40 and rock for the clubs, and a little bit of
everything for the many festivals and corporate functions that they do
during the year. Costume changes, audience participation, and
crazy antics keep audiences on their toes.
On stage, front man
and co-leader Kent Zimmerman is huge in talent. Slick dance
moves and a wide vocal range provide endless entertainment for audiences.
In constant motion, Kent works the stage and the audience all night.
Guitars heat up in the hands of transplanted Californian Mark Davidson.
Combined with his gravelly vocals, Mark brings the rock to the band and the
crowds to the stage! On drums, South Boston, Virginia’s Chip
Johnson’s
smooth licks and high vocals add depth and consistency. As the newest
member of Pizazz!, we know our fans will make him welcome! Bass
guitarist
Kenny Hancock brings over 30 years experience to the band-experience
he gained while playing with such names as The Coasters, Clifford
Curry, and The Royal Kings. The band’s beach fix comes in
the form of Rick Sander’s and his keyboards. Rick has played
with such beach music greats as The Band of Oz and The
Entertainers. While with Billy Scott and the Prophets, Rick
released “Long Legs All The Way Up” which climbed to number three on the
beach music charts. And, though he started playing guitar in a band
when he was 15, Robbie Franklin keeps everybody sounding and looking
good on sound and lights in the back of the room for Pizazz.
