The evening begins with a social at 5 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner at 6. Guests can bid on items such as artwork, vacation getaways, gift baskets and tickets to sporting events during our silent and live auctions.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s special guest and keynote speaker is Carolina basketball legend Phil Ford. The three-time All American, National Player of the Year and 1976 Olympic gold medalist is often called one of the greatest college point guards of all time and the greatest point guard ever to play in the ACC. Ford finished his career at Carolina as the all-time leading scorer in school and ACC history, with 2,290 points. He also set school and ACC career records for total assists, with 753.<\/p>\n<p>Ford received the John R. Wooden Award in 1978. He was inducted into the NC Sports Hall of Fame in 1991 and was named to the ACC 50th Anniversary men\u2019s basketball team, honoring the 50 best players in conference history, in 2002.<\/p>\n<p>Ford\u2019s relationship with the Children\u2019s Home began with a visit while he was a student at UNC, and he spoke at our baccalaureate service in 2023. Ford has graciously spent time with the children and offered guidance while reflecting on his own inspirational experiences. His focus is on spirituality and the need to help each other in troubling times.<\/p>\n<p>Time for the Kids is the Home\u2019s premier social and fund-raising event.
